Welcome Home Pup
When you first get your pup and its introduced into its new environment, you can count on him or her to mark and or have a few accidents within the first few days. Do remember that they're being introduced into an unknown place with you being unknown to them as well, so there will be a time of transitioning as they get to know you and vice versa. So, have your pet-friendly cleaning aids at hand and be prepared for a few accidents here and there.
And with the above said you must be prepared for the responsibility of feeding, exercising, training, medical visits and bills, cleaning up after etc. that comes with having a dog.
Be sure to have your pup microchipped and to put a snug collar on him or her together with an identification tag and the microchip tag that comes after you've had them done.
A key in adopting a pet is to remember that dogs are pack animals. I believe it cruel to have just a dog with the above said. And dogs, they need guidance from their owners too, just be aware and give them the time to transition and not to be cruel to their adjusting.
Provide your pup with chewy toys, and avoid treats such as rawhides or pig hooves as they will often fight over them and even attack you if you accidentally get in the way.
Watch your pup at all times, they're in a new environment and might feel the need to chew on something. They might be going through the “teething phase”. Train your dog well and give them suitable chewing toys to help the process along.
Supervise your dog at all times. You do not want them running off after a cat or getting through a fence, be sure to puppy-proof your garden and keep him or her on a leash when going for a walk.
During the potty-training process, keep your dog with you at all times. When you sense the need arise for your pup to go you can just rush him or her outside and teach it to go.
Play nice with your new pup. What they learn now will stay with them so no tug-of-war games which may instil aggressive behaviour.
